How does the competition work?
Appellate teams must consist of two participants and must prepare both sides of the case to argue. Teams will present their oral arguments before a 3-5 judge panel made up of attorneys, judges and peer justices. Each team must also be prepared to hear the case as a justice and be ready to engage in questioning of attorneys during oral arguments. Each team will have two chances to present per side and two opportunities to be a justice.
Do I need to have attended Y&G or participated in mock trial to participate?
No. While this is a competition, participants of all experience levels are eligible to participate (even those who have never been in a Y&G Court program or done mock trial in high school).
